Renowned Wounded Warrior Veteran to Speak in Jacksonville
Online, November 5, 2012 (Newswire.com) - One of the most decorated Wounded Warriors in the country will be speaking in Jacksonville at an upcoming Jacksonville Bar Association (JBA) meeting. Dan Nevins is the Director of Warriors Speak, a prestigious group of wounded warriors and caregivers who have been selected to share their personal, inspirational stories of courage and integrity with the public. By sharing his own story and personal accomplishments, Nevins is an inspiration to his peers and the warriors he serves.
The JBA lunch meeting is on Monday, November 12 at Noon at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront, which is located at 225 E. Coastline Drive. The Patriots Day luncheon will honor our military, police officers and firefighters.
Dan Nevins, Staff Sergeant, United States Army (Retired), began his military career as an enlisted paratrooper stationed in Germany. Following the completion of his eight-year enlistment Nevins remained in the California Army National Guard while earning a bachelor of science in business administration from Sonoma State University.
In February 2004, Staff Sergeant Nevins was deployed to Balad, Iraq as a member of Task Force Tacoma, where he served as an infantry squad leader. Nine months later, on November 10, 2004, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated beneath the vehicle in which he was a passenger on an early morning combat mission. As a result of his injuries, Nevins suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI), his left leg was amputated below the knee, and his right leg was severely damaged - requiring more than 30 surgeries. Nevins spent 18 months recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center before relocating to Jacksonville. In April 2008, a recurrent bone infection in his right leg necessitated the amputation of that leg below the knee.
