Report: World Obesity Rankings Suggest Over 775 Million People Are Obese
A new report by Renew Bariatrics, on the Obesity Rankings of Countries in 2017, suggest there are over 775 million obese individuals in the entire World.
Laguna Beach, CA, October 27, 2017 (Newswire.com) - A report on the Obesity Ranks by Country has been released by Renew Bariatrics. New data suggests there are about 775 million obese individuals in the entire world, which affects approximately 10.3% of the entire World's population.
The number of obese adults was lead by the United States, with over 73 millions obese adults. Followed by China and India, with 65 million, and 44 million obese adults.
There are about 775 million obese individuals alive today.

Trends Emerge
Even though China is the second largest adult obesity country, obesity affects only 6.9%. Likewise, nearby countries like Thailand, Japan, and India, all have significantly low obesity rates. Suggesting that obesity is affecting specific regions more than other areas.
Regions Affecting Obesity
- Oceania Islands – The highest propensity of obesity can be seen in Oceania nations such as the Cook Islands, Samoa, Tonga, Nauru, Palau, Niue, and the Marshall Islands. It should be noted that even though the high rates of obesity, these countries have significantly less population. Most obesity rates affect nearly or over 50% of the population.
- Middle East – The second highest region is the middle east, with as much as 75% of the population being obese or overweight. Countries include Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Oman, Jordan, Egypt, and Kuwait.
- South America – South America continent is a home of highly obese countries regarding absolute numbers including Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Chile.
- North America - North America is another place with extremely high rates of obesity, namely the United States, Canada, Mexico, Panama, and Costa Rica.
