Response To Roger Goodell's Press Conference
NFL Commisioner Roger Goodell held a press conference today to address domestic violence and their partnership with the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
Culver City, CA, September 19, 2014 (Newswire.com) - It is heartening that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell accepted responsibility and apologized for mishandling the Ray Rice situation. Break the Cycle applauds the NFL for beginning to make changes to league conduct policies on domestic violence and sexual assault. The NFL will be working with the National Domestic Violence Hotline, the National Sexual Violence Resource Center and a committee of experts in the domestic violence/sexual assault field to learn more about the dynamics of abuse and how to support survivors of violence.
However, this is the first step of many needed to ensure that these changes will be implemented, effective and long-lasting. The NFL is an example to other companies, organizations and agencies of what can happen if they do not address domestic violence or sexual assault before an incident like this occurs.
Our mission is to inspire and support young people to build healthy relationships and create a culture without abuse.
Joe Jessie, Communications Manager
Ray Rice, Dan Hardy, Adrian Peterson, and Jonathan Dwyer are all examples of why it is so important for the NFL to impliment a policy that has zero tolerance towards domestic abuse. The Player's Association and the NFL now have no excuses, and Break the Cycle looks forward to this process, and working with the NFL to end domestic violence.
