Restaurant App Crave to Shed Light on Women-Powered Restaurants in NYC
NEW YORK, March 6, 2020 (Newswire.com) - The Women-Powered Restaurants campaign will run from March 8th until March 15th. During that week, Crave will be featuring the inspiring stories behind the successful women in the restaurant industry on its social channels and blog, recognizing the challenges necessary to overcome and succeed in a male dominated field. “I hope this initiative will encourage remarkable female chefs and owners to take on leadership roles and pave an impactful way forward, because women are the future of the culinary industry,” said Samia Behaya, chef and owner at Simple Café.
To expand on this initiative, the Crave app will be highlighting all partnering women-helmed restaurants with a purple icon, making it easy to browse and support. Collected proceeds made from bookings at these featured restaurants will be donated to support the Women’s Initiatives at the James Beard Foundation, designed to advance women in the culinary industry. “Through this initiative, we want to bring recognition and support to the incredible women chefs and restaurateurs within our partner network,” said Pan Koutlakis, Crave’s CEO and co-founder. “It’s our responsibility to work towards improving the health and longevity of the hospitality industry at large, and recognizing and empowering women chefs and owners, is an important attribute to achieve an equitable and vibrant industry,” added Crave’s marketing manager Nathalie Farah.
Featured New York City chefs and restaurateurs include: James Beard Award semifinalist Janine Booth, chef partner, Root & Bone; owner, manager and chef Lamia Funti, Lamia’s Fish Market, Le Souk and Mykonos Bleu; chef and restaurateur Sruthi Chowdary, Khiladi; owner and chef Samia Behaya, Simple Cafe; co-owners Haley Fox and Lauren Fox, Alice’s Tea Cup; owner and chef Norma Jean Darden, Miss Mamie’s Spoonbread; chef and owner May Kaidee, May Kaidee.
