Restaurant Launches Wales' First App Enabling Cutomers To Facebook Table

A restaurant in Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, has become the first eaterie in Wales to create a bespoke 'app' which enables customers to book a table directly through the social networking site Facebook.

Pier 64, a Steakhouse and Wine Bar based in Penarth Marina, decided to harness the power of social media and launch the app when it started receiving an increasing amount of table bookings via its Facebook and Twitter pages.
The app allows Facebook users to book a table through a quick and simple process designed to remove the task of calling to secure a reservation. After customers fill out a simple form, the app posts a status update on their Facebook page notifying their 'friends that they have just booked a table at Pier 64.
Francis Dupuy, co-owner at Pier 64, said:
"With so many people using social media today, this seemed a logical and creative step for us to take. People already use our social media profiles to book with us but we wanted to create something that made it as easy as possible for customers, and something that worked 24 hours a day.
"We think it will really appeal to busy people who prefer booking online. The fact the app then posts a status on customers' walls means it's a cost-effective way of taking our name viral - we calculate that just a few bookings will expose our brand to thousands of people."
To book using the Facebook App, which was developed by Mogi Marketing in conjunction with Cake Communications, users need to 'like' the Pier 64 Facebook page and then click on the app tool before filling out a simple form.
