Restaurant Unveils New Healthy Menu Items Called In The Pink!
T-BONES Great American Eatery In New Hampshire Promotes Healthy Menu Items- Owner on board with first lady's message of fighting obesity with In the Pink™ items!
Online, October 26, 2010 (Newswire.com) - New Hampshire - T-BONES Great American Eatery has risen to the challenge set by First Lady Michelle Obama for restaurants to "make the healthier choice the easier choice."
Tom Boucher, owner and CEO of T-BONES, attended the National Restaurant Association's Board of Directors meeting in Washington, D.C., last month, where Obama spoke about obesity.
"One-third of all meals today are eaten in restaurants," Obama said. "That's why I want to challenge every restaurant to offer healthy menu options, and then provide them up front so (people) don't have to hunt around and read the small print."
Inspired by Obama's message, Boucher returned to New Hampshire, ready to make changes. He said that the timing was perfect, as his team was in the midst of creating its new fall menu. He challenged his culinary team - led by Chef Nicole Barreira, who has become a familiar face in New Hampshire, donning her signature pink chef jacket - to create some menu items that were not only healthy, but delicious.
Once the items were created, they needed a distinctive name, and the In the Pink™ notation was born. The phrase refers to a 16th-century term meaning "in perfect condition, especially of health."
The T-BONES new fall menu now offers 16 In the Pink™ items, well-marked with Chef Nicole's pink chef jacket. These items are 650 calories or less, 10 grams of fat or less, or 10 grams of net carbs or less. These items can easily be found throughout the menu, including the children's section.
Some items designated as In the Pink™ choices include Center Cut Filet Mignon,
Baked-Stuffed Seafood Casserole, Low Fat Fiesta Shrimp Pasta and Charlie's Broiled Boston Scrod. Children's items include the Kids' Mac 'n' Cheese, Grilled Cheese and the Kids' Mixed Grill.
As always at T-BONES, guests are welcome to request that menu items be prepared to fit their dietary needs.
Even though new national labeling requirements don't apply to independent restaurants like
T-BONES, Boucher has taken steps to make this information available on all menu items on the
T-BONES website by the end of the year.
"It is important to me to provide customers with the necessary details to make decisions
about their own health," Boucher said. "We have always looked out for our guests with our
'made-from-scratch' meals, and we hope they'll appreciate our In the Pink™ choices."
Obama also spoke highly of the NRA's HealthyDiningFinder.com, which lists restaurants that offer healthy dining options. T-BONES is one of the only independent restaurants in New Hampshire listed.
T-BONES Great American Eatery is located in Bedford, Derry, Salem, Hudson and Laconia, New Hampshire. For more information, visit T-BONES.com.
