Resume Offer for 49er's Alex Smith More Important than New Offensive Coordinator

Smiths's lack of success raises a problem for the 49ers. They can't trade him and they seem to insist on playing him. He needs a professional resume writer more than a new offensive coordinator, which he has as of today.

The Bay Area's leading resume writer and career counselor has offered to write a resume for Alex Smith, the San Francisco 49er quarterback.

Shimmering Resumes, an executive resume writing service, is concerned about the performance of the NFL franchise, which innovated the West Coast offense when led by Hall of Fame quarterbacks. but has since fallen into a deep malaise.

"As a 49er fan I see this as a way to help my team," said Paul Freiberger, president of Shimmering Resumes of San Mateo. "Smith's performance doesn't speak so well for itself so I'll create a resume that will speak for him and help him get a job for another team.

"Why won't the 49ers cut their under-achieving star loose?" Mr. Freiberger asked. "Perhaps ownership worries that Smith can't get by with the $49.5 million he has received from the team. That's one reason he needs a professional resume writer. It is simply Career Planning 101."

Smiths's lack of success raises a problem for the 49ers, Freiberger said. "They can't trade him and they seem to insist on playing him. He needs a professional resume writer more than a new offensive coordinator. He's already had several coordinators and now he has another since the 49ers just fired Jimmy Raye. Maybe it's the QB."

Mr. Freiberger said Smith has great qualifications to highlight in a resume, including a 40.7 second 40-yard dash and a 31-inch vertical leap. "That he hasn't been able to use these talents to help his team win a game this season is the challenge. We all have our weaknesses; unfortunately for Alex, the media won't ignore his interceptions, losses, and inconsistency over six years."

The president of Shimmering Resumes said he hopes to meet with Smith in person and explain rules of an effective resume to him, such as:

• It should leave the employer wanting to know more about him, thus exploring his success in college.
• It should strip away clutter such as interceptions and fumbles.
• It should showcase successes rather than responsibilities. He shouldn't describe his role in the failed seasons he has been with the team. Instead, he should say, "Led team (in college) to victories in playoff (Liberty Bowl and Fiesta Bowl) games."

In addition to a professional resume, Smith also needs job interview tips, Freiberger said. Though experienced and sometimes nimble in the media interview, he offered to take Smith through the job interview process, revealing classic "curveball" questions and teaching him to punt on the tough ones.

The job search is often dispiriting and Freiberger expects Smith may have to be patient in this process. A proud performer used to success in his college career, Smith may find rejection letters depressing, and Shimmering Resumes will provide the insightful support he needs to keep his spirits high and carry out his normal affairs. This is help he can't get from Mike Singletary after starting the season with three losses.

"The 49ers have to move forward without Smith," said Freiberger. " I'm hoping to help both the QB and the team in this process."
