The percentages of homeless women in RI have increased at an alarming rate over the past few years. Crossroads RI will hold an event March 1, 2011 at the RI State House to inform the public.

Crossroads Rhode Island will join the foremost women in Rhode Island government for an afternoon tea at the State House on March 1. The largest provider of services to Rhode Islanders who are homeless will release a report with statistics and information on the growing numbers of women who are homeless.

Crossroads Rhode Island assists homeless and disconnected Rhode Islanders on their journey toward a better quality of life. Crossroads does this by providing a continuum of care that includes basic emergency needs, shelter, housing, case management and vocational services for individuals and families.

The Crossroads Women's Shelter, which opened in April of 2008 in response to the increasing number of homeless women in Rhode Island, is full beyond capacity. Built for 41 women, the shelter has served an average of 60 women per night since opening, and more women walk through our doors every day seeking shelter and/or help getting their lives back on track. Most are newly homeless, many affected by the economic downturn.
