Right-To-Know (RTK) label guide from Graphic Products up for grabs
The RTK Color Bar Label Guide outlines required hazard info and safety category ratings to be used on Right-To-Know labels.
Online, January 28, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Beaverton, Oregon - A free RTK Color Bar Label Guide is available from Graphic Products, Inc., which provides workplace safety solutions by means of industrial label printers and labeling supplies. The guide profiles a Right-To-Know label's layout and required content.
"We anticipate demand for our free RTK Color Bar Label Guide to be high across every industry, especially amongst maintenance and safety personnel," said Steve Hudgik, director of corporate marketing at Graphic Products. "Wherever chemicals are used, Right-To-Know labels must be applied to containers to provide information about safety hazards for anyone who handles them or may possibly be exposed to them."
RTK labels are required under the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard 29 CFR 1910.1200, the purpose of which is, as stated on OSHA's official Web site, "to ensure that the hazards of all chemicals produced or imported are evaluated, and that information concerning their hazards is transmitted to employers and employees." An essential element in this transmittal of information includes "container labeling and other forms of warning."
The guide displays a large RTK label and profiles it to illustrate how RTK color bars draw attention to the characteristics of specific hazards included in a container. For example, the red bar on an RTK label signifies a "FLAMMABILITY" hazard. To the right of each color bar is a visible number that represents the level of danger for the specific hazard on a scale of zero to four, with four being the most severe level of danger.
Other elements of an OSHA-compliant Right-To-Know label described on the guide include the chemical name, the assigned Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) number, the signal word, the reminder statement and the symbols for required PPE usage or the identification of both health and organ hazards.
The back of the guide introduces four DuraLabel printers and a mobile print station engineered for producing quality RTK color bar labels, arc flash labels, pipe markers, OSHA safety labels and more. DuraLabel's labeling software package, DuraSuite, is also briefly defined.
"Along with helping employers and employees read and understand RTK labels, the RTK Color Bar Label Guide expressly points out how DuraSuite makes creating, printing, and documenting OSHA-compliant RTK labels much easier," said Hudgik.
