What differentiates an average yard from a yard that is the envy of the neighborhood? Although thoughtfully chosen plants and diligent maintenance set some properties apart, selective hardscaping in the form of walkways, driveways, patios and aquascapes is often the missing link to creating a beautiful yet functional outdoor sanctuary. Rinox, a local PA-based company, makes the choice easy for customers, by manufacturing a full line of hardscape products, including concrete paving stones, modular block retaining walls, patio pavers and masonry products.
With a wide variety of colors, shapes and textures - all inspired by nature - Rinox's innovative hardscape materials add richness to the home and create ambiance. "It's the elegance and opulence of natural stone without the installation and maintenance hassles - the perfect marriage of form and function guaranteed to turn heads and last a lifetime," says Ira Vosper, General Manager of Rinox. Jim Downend, President of J. Downend Landscaping, Inc., a full-service landscape design firm and a Rinox preferred contractor. "I know how valuable it is to work with a company like Rinox; I can't do my job if the companies that supply the materials don't do their jobs," says Downend.
Rinox, whose products are distributed exclusively through discriminating authorized dealers across the East Coast, has extensive experience working with top architects, engineers and designers. In addition, its employees work with contractors from project bidding to the placement of the final piece, including on-site assistance for larger jobs. The company also prides itself on the same values as Downend - professionalism and the ability to handle a project from start to finish, on time and on budget. The result is unparalleled customer satisfaction.
A prime example of the two companies' cohesive success is the Roe Family Pool Project in Media, Delaware County, which was completed last spring. When the Roe Family decided it was the right time to build their dream pool, they contracted a local pool company and contacted Downend to design the poolscape's hard surface areas and plantings, and to finish grading. The goal was to create a resort-like pool area for family and guests to enjoy. "The private residence sits on a large property with beautiful natural views," says Downend. "Therefore we needed to design this pool area so that it would take full advantage of such a setting. The more we could incorporate natural products into the plan, the better." In addition to a 4-foot retaining wall, the hardscape design called for more than 2,500 square feet of pavers to surround the irregular-shaped pool. After the stone and brick were selected for other aspects of the project, the Roes needed to choose pavers to complete the look. Weeks of indecision finally led the family to Downend's display at the Greater Philadelphia Suburban Home & Garden Show. "As soon as they walked in, they said our display was exactly what they wanted," recalls Downend. The Roes chose Arizona Patio Pavers in Sahara Sand by Rinox for the main field. In addition to being selected for their irregular size and shape, the Arizona pavers' natural stone texture was meant to provide traction around the pool and gave a shadow effect over the entire patio. The
light, sandy color would also be cool on people's feet at the height of summer heat. Since an irregular surface was not desired around the outdoor dining area, a smooth surface paver named Bolero was chosen for this space. Bolero Antique Pavers are available in four different sizes and colors, and can be easily installed in curved or serpentine shaped applications.
No project is complete without borders and edging to lend the finishing touch. "The edge of the pool needed coping that would allow for the safe access of the children without compromising the beauty of the patio," explains Downend. "This challenge was met with Rinox's Spherik Bullnose coping installed with a mortar joint to achieve both function and aesthetics." Getting ready to enjoy their second season as pool owners, the Roes couldn't be happier with their multifunctional outdoor living area. Giving customers what they want is the ultimate goal at Rinox. And the company achieves this goal time and time again with its creative ideas, craftsmanship and professionalism.
