River Expeditions Announces 22nd Annual Volleyball Championship and Weekend Package Deals

In the 238 years since the Declaration of Independence was signed, America has celebrated freedom. For the last 21 years, River Expeditions has hosted an annual Volleyball tournament over the 4th of July Weekend to celebrate.

River Expeditions will be celebrating their 22nd annual Independence Day Volleyball Championship on July 4, 2014 A package price of $150 for the weekend includes 3 nights camping, a light breakfast every morning, rafting on the Gauley or New Rivers, and of course, an exciting volleyball tournament along with a barbecue cookout on Saturday afternoon.

"Volleyball is a great game to watch and to play - especially in the summer sun!" says Rick Johnson, River Expeditions owner. "Rafters are usually pretty athletic - so the competition can get fierce! The added attraction of the BBQ means that a crowd usually assembles to watch and cheer. It really is a great atmosphere for all ages."

Details about the River Expeditions Volleyball Championship and entry forms can be obtained by calling River Expeditions at 1-800-463-9873.

The New and Gauley rivers are full of cultural and natural history - making them an important part of America's journey towards independence. Beyond whitewater rafting and volleyball, guests can enjoy zip line rides, scenic float tours, horseback riding, fishing, mountain biking - and much more! The New River splits into two distinct sections, creating adventures suitable for every level of rafter. The Upper New River is a playful introduction to rafting - making it a great option for families or new rafters (ages 6 and up). The Lower New River, often referred to as "The Grand Canyon of the East" because of the high rocks and winding river, is a great option for experienced rafters. This part of the river is not recommended for new rafters as some of the dips and dives can be a bit extreme. Water temperatures average approximately 78 degrees in June.

White water rafting consists of navigating a stretch of water on an inflatable raft. Trips generally last about 5-7 hours, including a break for riverside lunch. No experience is necessary on some of the milder sections of the water. The ability to swim is helpful, but it is not required since all necessary safety equipment is provided. Equipment includes a Coast Guard approved Type V Life Jacket, Paddle, and Helmet.
