Online, May 6, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Celebrate Memorial Day weekend with white water rafting, camping, and other adventures at the New River Gorge in West Virginia. White water rafting outfitter, River Expeditions, has created an exciting package that consists of a one day rafting pass on the New River, a BBQ cookout after rafting, 3 nights of camping at the Adventure Resort, and light breakfast in the mornings. Guests have the option of rafting any day Saturday to Monday, and then spend the rest of the days experiencing other attractions available in the area, including float trips, horseback riding, and fishing, to name a few. In addition to many outdoor activities, the area boasts charming local businesses and a rich cultural district with parks, museums and historical sites.
"The New River George is beautiful year-round, but May is when it's really great." Says River Expeditions Owner, Rick Johnson. "We believe this package is a great chance for families and friends to explore the area and experience rafting, all while enjoying the sunshine and the 3 day weekend." The New River is full of history and beauty as it splits into two sections, including the Upper New River, a quiet route for new rafters. In this section, visitors have the chance to swim, paddle, play, take pictures, or just float around and enjoy their surroundings. However, the experienced rafting veteran can still get their fill of both beauty and thrills on a more complex, faster path full of waves and drops. The Lower New River Gorge is commonly referred to as 'The Grand Canyon of the East'. This trip blends classic whitewater excitement with the elements of history and natural beauty to create a truly amazing adventure. Weather temperatures average 71 degrees in May.
White water rafting consists of traveling down the river on an inflatable raft for approximately 5-7 hours, including a break for lunch. The ability to swim is helpful, but not required, as all guests are provided with all necessary safety equipment: a Coast Guard approved Type V Life Jacket, Paddle, and Helmet.
