The New River is a scenic and recreational experience full of natural and cultural history in addition to hours of fun and adventure. White water rafting, kayaking, fishing, and scenic float trips are just a few of the activities available in the area. The river splits into two distinct sections, with the Upper New River, which consists of gentle waves and pools for the beginning rafter, aged 6 or higher. The Lower New River Gorge provides an exciting contrast as "The Grand Canyon of the East", with faster waters perfect for the adrenaline junkie.
White water rafting consists of navigating the New River on an inflatable raft in waters that are approximately 70 degrees during the summer. Trips are usually 5-7 hours, including lunch. No experience is needed on the gentle sections of the river. The ability to swim is also not required, but it is helpful. Each guest's safety is a priority, and all guests are equipped with a Coast Guard approved Type V Life Jacket, Paddle, and Helmet.
