Roberta Evens Celebrates 100th Birthday at Trail Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation
FORT WORTH, Texas, September 5, 2018 (Newswire.com) - Roberta Evens celebrated her 100th birthday on July 28, 2018, at Trail Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation, where she currently lives.
Mrs. Evens was born on July 28, 1918 right outside of Archer City, Texas where they filmed, “The Last Picture Show.”
Mrs. Evens was born on a ranch in a small town in Texas. At the time of Mrs. Evens birth, the local town doctor came by horseback to deliver her at her home. Mrs. Evans had four sisters and one brother. The Governor at the time of Mrs. Evens birth was William P. Hobby. Governor Hobby sent her a white rocking “Hobby” horse trimmed in gold with a green velvet saddle. Later when Mrs. Evens was an adult, she had the pleasure of meeting Governor Hobby who referred to her as, “Little Miss Hobby.”
Mrs. Evens was married at the age of 22. She was married for 52 years and had two beautiful children. Mrs. Evens worked at General Dynamics for 23 years as an administrative assistant, and for five years as secretary to Ken Davis, retiring at the age of 55. She was also a member of Arlington Heights Eastern Stars for over 50 years and very involved member of Broadway Baptist Church for over 45 years.
When asked what her greatest achievement was, she stated, "I am proudest of my children and my husband."
Trail Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation hosted a 100th birthday party for Mrs. Evens on July 27, 2018. Along with the birthday party, the facility celebrated the whole week with Mrs. Evens by receiving gifts each day to include 100 kisses, 100 lifesavers, 100 flowers, 100 balloons, and then to end the week she received a tiara along with her favorite meal. Mrs. Evens celebrated her big day with a party with her family on July 28, 2018.
