Robomatter, Incorporated Launches STEM Computer Science Program in Malaysia and Other ASEAN Countries

Continuing its mission to help strengthen STEM education around the world, Robomatter, Incorporated is partnering with K-12 education technology provider, Eduspec Holdings Berhad, to deliver a cutting-edge STEM Computer Science program to schools in Asia.

Robomatter, Incorporated (“Robomatter”) announced the launch of it’s K-12 STEM Computer Science (STEM CS) program to schools in Malaysia and other ASEAN countries, through a partnership with K-12 education technology provider, Eduspec Holdings Berhad. The program, which was created based on research from Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Academy, helps students develop 21st-century college and career readiness skills by using hands-on STEM content and curriculum to teach foundational mathematics, engineering, programming, collaborative problem-solving, creative thinking, and computational thinking skills.

“Growing up in a digital world, computer science is important for students’ futures, even if they don’t end up in STEM careers,” says Jason McKenna, Director of Global Education Strategy for Robomatter. “There’s a real need for digital skills in the workforce, and that need will only continue to grow. Additionally, no matter what the field, employers need workers with the critical and analytical thinking skills, the kind that are developed from studying STEM subjects such as computer science.”

“It’s now the 21st century which means an overhaul has been long overdue for our education landscape. By bringing in STEM CS, we hope to address the gap and bring our education system and our schools up to par with the rest of the developed world,” says E H Lim, CEO of Eduspec Holdings Berhad.

The launch coincides with the Malaysian government’s initiative to increase the number of students who pursue STEM-related careers by 60% and will also complement Malaysia’s national curriculum. The STEM CS program, which is already being implemented in schools in South Korea and Taiwan, will also be introduced in other ASEAN countries, including Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Myanmar.
