Robot Artist Pindar Van Arman to Speak About Artificial Creativity at TEDxFoggyBottom

Washington DC Artist Pindar Van Arman to speak at TEDxFoggyBottom April 23rd. His talk will describe how he has attempted to capture his creativity in algorithms and teach those algorithms to his painting robots.

Artist Pindar Van Arman to speak at TEDxFoggyBottom in Washington DC this coming Saturday.

Ten years ago, Van Arman set out on a personal project to build a painting robot. Specifically, he set out to build a machine that created fine art with a brush on canvas. In the decade since, he has completed five painting machines, each using a brush and each employing increasingly sophisticated AI. These robots have painted over a thousand canvases and regularly inspire debate regarding the nature of art and meaning of creativity.

Van Arman's TEDx Talk will focus on how he has tried to capture his own artistic process in algorithms, and then teach those algorithms to his robot. Furthermore, his robots will also be at the TEDx conference as part of a live interactive art exhibit.
