Rock hard, step gently at SA's leading eco-music fest - Rockin' the Daisies

The Rockin' the Daisies music festival, known and loved for being the country's greenest music celebration, is due to kick off in the second weekend of October. Cape Town city rockers are already packing their overnight bags for one the top music

Having snapped up a Climate Change Leadership award for introducing a boxed set of green initiatives , the Western Cape's pointed and powerful music festival will be hosted by the Cloof Wine Estate, a winery perfectly placed in the 'flower zone' of South Africa, where each year in spring, carpets of kaleidoscope coloured blooms burst into life!

Green Initiatives

Musos and music lovers have blazed a trail of earth awareness by selecting to walk or cycle the distance to Cape Town's premier rock fest and this year, and the 'feet first' route has been planned far in advance to include beach, bush and unfettered farm land.

Music lovers from across South Africa are making their way to Cape Town to spend a few nights in the glittering seaside city before joining the throngs expected to negotiate the 60km on foot. The route has been broken up into two less testing travels, with a starry overnight stop planned at the gorgeous Silverstroomstrand - that's the Silver Stream Beach to the uninitiated!

Solar and wind powered electricity, bio-diesel generators and LED lighting will get the party going with a minimal carbon footprint. Moreover, with tree planting and recycling initiatives also forming part of the weekend's action, the Rockin' the Daisies is an authentic and sustainable rock and roll gathering.

The Line-up

This year's festival offers a full menu of live entertainment, with two happening stages and a makeshift theatre offering artsy performances and comedy. She Man Lion, Hog Hoggidy Hog, Blush n Bass and Springbok Nude Girls are just a few of the bands, artists and emerging stars who will be on hand to entertain, cajole and demand a foot stomping session.

Late night and early morning performances by Goodluck, Flash Republic, Enough Weapons, Haezer, B Team, Killer Robot and, rather incongruously, Anthea Scholtz, are sure to keep the 'big bash' tempo going way into the wee hours.

The World Beat Barn, featuring throbbing beats inspired by traditional international music is yet another exclusive offering by a music festival which deserves the support it gets from the 10,000-plus rock 'n rollers from all over the planet!

Don't miss this fantastic eco music festival, which happens just once a year in the Cape. Book accommodation, Cape Town Day Tours and tickets soon to avoid disappointment.
