Roy Mellinger of Anthem and Aetna Claim Top Awards at ISE® Central

Mignona Cote named People's Choice Award Winner

T.E.N., a technology and information security executive networking and relationship-marketing firm, honored finalists and winners Wednesday evening, May 17, 2017, at the ISE® Central Executive Forum and Awards Gala at the Westin Galleria Dallas in Dallas, TX.

Roy Mellinger, Vice President of Information Technology Security and Chief Information Security Officer for Anthem, was selected as the Information Security Executive® of the Year Award winner for the ISE® Central Region. Mellinger is responsible for protecting computer systems and applications, technical infrastructure, and information assets for Anthem. He is also responsible for technology risk management, cyber incident response, investigations and computer forensic programs. Mellinger joined Anthem in March 2009, bringing 30 years of experience developing and managing best-in-class physical, logical, and information security programs for domestic and international business operations. He has been on the Board of Directors for HITRUST (The Health Information Trust Alliance) since 2010 and is on the Advisory Board for The Lares Institute. He is a frequent keynote speaker on cybersecurity and information security management best practices. In 2012, he was invited to the White House to work with President Obama’s administration and the National Security Council on ways to improve government — public sector cooperation on cyber security threats, as well as the President’s National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC).

Mignona Cote, CISO PayFlex; CISO Phoenix Data Services; SR Director Information Security for Aetna, was honored during the event as the 2017 ISE® Central People’s Choice Award. This award represents the nominee who best exemplifies information security leadership as voted on by their peers in information security. Mignona’s leadership style is based on people development and collaboration. She opens doors for her team, peers and colleagues to learn and achieve results. She is a firm believer in recognizing the contributions of others and ensuring that each voice is heard to build a stronger solution.  There are times that quick decisions are required, and she feels that she has developed those around her to act swiftly. She will step in and support her colleagues and team to ensure overall success.

Aetna’s project “Distributed Controls: Managing Security differently Across 15 Organizations” was selected as the ISE® Central Project of the Year. Cote accepted the award on behalf of Aetna. Resiliency to market demands, continuous change in threats, and 14 completely different companies ranging from financial services, international markets, and consumer healthcare forces the Global Security Officer to manage 14 security programs uniquely while leveraging core Aetna techniques and solutions. Aetna developed a model to identify risks, measure maturity, and implement solutions, maintaining the unique DNA of each company while assuring the security as they operate within the boutique styles required for competitive advantage and speed to market.

“Our judges were very impressed by the high-caliber group of executive and project nominees this year,” said T.E.N. CEO and President Marci McCarthy. “Each of them are incredible innovators and leaders in information security, and we were proud to honor them at the ISE® Central Awards and we are honored to have each and every one of them join the ranks of our distinguished ISE® Alumni.”
