Rubric Management Software for Teachers
Online, July 24, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Lawrence, KS - AllofE Solutions, a software solution provider for K-12 school districts, recently completed a research and development project where they automated the paper-based process of managing rubrics for teachers. The company recently launched a tool that allows teachers to build and manage rubrics, align them to state standards, and use them during the grading process.
The deployment of an automated rubric management solution came after years of working in the K-12 academic sector in the areas of curriculum management and assessments. Many schools have realized that the historical means of standardized, selected-response testing such as true/false and multiple choice testing may not be the best indicator of student performance. While it would be difficult to completely eliminate this form of testing, it can be supplemented with Performance Based Analysis and Assessments.
Assessment management systems have become more and more popular in the K-12 academic sector and what makes these popular is that they save the teacher time by building assessments and then by automatically grading those assessments. Assessment management systems do this quite well. So now the question is with Performance Based Assessments, there is not one correct answer so how does a teacher grade that in a standardized and objective manner? Not only how does a teacher grade it, but how can we make it as quick and easy as possible?
This is where rubric-based grading comes into play. A lot of teachers are already using some form of rubrics to assess and evaluate their students, measure learning, and tie curriculum to learning. For the most part, this is a manual, paper-based process.
AllofE's new software application aids teachers in the process of managing rubrics and using them during the grading process. It allows the teacher to align rubrics to any number of state standards and grading criteria as well as automatically calculates total scores based on the criteria selected.
