Runners, Take Your Mark

The 31st Annual Buckley's - Kennedy's 5K Run is set for Sunday, May 15, 2011.

The 31st Annual Buckley's - Kennedy's 5K Charity Run will take place at 10 am on Sunday, May 15. Beginning on the Boardwalk at Riis Park in Rockaway, Queens, and ending at Kennedy's Restaurant in Breezy Point, the Run will benefit HeartShare Human Services of New York.

The Run is always dedicated to the memory of loved ones who recently have passed away. This year's Run is dedicated to the memory of Jimmy Buckley, the namesake of the Run and without whom this great event would never have been possible. The Run organizers feel this is an appropriate and respectful way to pay tribute to his life, and, at the same time, help support a great cause that he so tirelessly promoted over the last two decades.

The Run will start on the Boardwalk near Bay 9 Mall in Riis Park, cross Fort Tilden and wind through the streets of Breezy Point to the finish line at Kennedy's Restaurant. Following the Run will be the Family Fun Day Picnic open to the runners, their families and the general public. It will feature live entertainment by the high-energy dance band, Head Over Heels, and DJ Suds, along with food and drinks, games and rides. The Picnic is free to runners and children 12 and under. For those 13 and older, the cost is $10 per person. The Run begins at 10 am and the Picnic begins at 11:30 am.

HeartShare provides needed services for children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities, as well as other at-risk children, adults and families.
