Sacramento Movers Discuss How Measure Curtains For A New Home
Online, June 30, 2013 (Newswire.com) - After settling into a new home and unpacking the boxes, the next step will be decorating. Installing curtains over windows is often one of the first tasks on the to-do list due to the fact that these add privacy, shade and visual appeal to a home. Curtains can be easily purchased from any home store in a variety of colors, styles, textures, and sizes. Or to accomplish a custom look, head to the fabric store and sew custom panels. Whichever option, the first step is essential to the project: take accurate measurements.
First, decide what style of curtain will suit the window or sliding door. A cafe style covering, a light crisp accent, or formal drapery? Would floor length be the best option or just a cover for the window area? Next determine where the curtain rod will go. For a standard look curtain rods can be placed two to three inches above the top of the window. When working with floor-length drapes, the rod is usually installed just a couple inches below the ceiling. Consider placing the curtain rod just within the window frame. This works well for small kitchen windows where all that is needed is a simple layer of material to cut the sun's sharp rays.
Once the style of curtain is decided upon, the next step is to measure the windows. Measure each window for width and height. If using floor length curtains, measure height from the curtain rod to the floor. For curtains that simply extend past the windowsill, measure from the curtain rod to three inches below the window. Next, in order to allow for a full, gathered look, it is essential to purchase or make window panels that will be one-and-a-half to three times the width of the window width measurement.
Curtains can be fairly simple to install and also make a big difference when it comes to the coziness and completeness of a decorating scheme. Once the measurements have been taken and the shopping and installation complete there will be one final step. Grab a seat and enjoy shade in the summer and warmth in the winter!
