SAD Season Is Underway

With the shorter days and colder weather, this is the time when Seasonal Affective Disorder and the Winter Blues hit up to 45 million North Americans.

Uplift Technologies Inc., a leading manufacturer of Bright Light Therapy Systems, is predicting higher than normal occurrences of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and the Winter Blues this year. SAD or the milder Winter Blues may impact up to 45 million North Americans.

"We've looked at the weather predictions for the next few months," states Michele Fash, Uplift's Marketing Manager, "and with a colder than normal winter forecast, we expect to see a strong uptrend in those suffering from SAD and the Winter Blues."

Shorter winter days and cold weather often equate to less sunlight exposure for the average person. This lack of light is believed to be the root cause of SAD and the Winter Blues, whose symptoms can include weight gain, low energy, feeling down, social withdrawal or irregular sleeping patterns. Bright light therapy systems, like the Day-Light, are designed to counteract this effect through short daily doses of bright light in the morning.

"Bright light therapy is simple, non-invasive and is the first recommended therapeutic option", explains Fash. "Its effectiveness has been demonstrated in numerous clinical studies."

Day-Lights are available from Amazon.com, Walgreens.com, CET.org and other leading retailers. For more information, please contact Uplift toll-free at 1-800-387-0896 or visit www.day-lights.com.
