Saelig Announces Distribution Agreement with Plessey Semiconductors Ltd. (UK)
Online, January 24, 2012 (Newswire.com) - UK-based Plessey, with a long and distinguished history of innovative design, complemented by its own manufacturing facilities, has appointed Saelig Co. Inc. of Pittsford, NY as its technical distributor for its novel EPIC ECG chip. Plessey manufactures semiconductor components for the global electronics industry with extensive expertise in RF, analog, power, and sensing technology combined with unique IC processes, providing solutions for medical, instrumentation, aerospace, automotive and communications markets. Standard products include demodulators, synthesizers, dividers, data converters, amplifiers, photodiodes and low drop-out regulators.
Plessey's unique EPIC Electric Potential Sensor was named 2011 Sensor Product of the Year by Electronic Products Magazine due to its innovative design and significant advancement in technology. Plessey's novel EPIC sensor will enable breakthrough applications in markets ranging from medical health/fitness through to automotive safety, security and computer input. The EPIC Sensor can be used for ECG/EEG/EOG measurements, movement sensing, proximity non-touch switches, or even for gesture recognition applications - including toys, electric appliances, smart lighting, gaming and security. By detecting changes in the electric field, the EPIC sensor can drive a relay to act as a simple non-touch electric switch. The EPIC sensor can be employed in a proximity mode or to detect specific kinds of movement as a gesture recognition device. As the EPIC sensor does not need line of sight, it can even detect movement through solid walls, and can also be used to replace, or as an adjunct to, passive infra-red (PIR) sensors in a variety of applications including security motion detectors. The electrode surface of the detector is coated with a passivated thin dielectric for direct application to a test surface (such as human skin) without the need for electrically conductive gel. It can be used as a dry contact ECG sensor without the need for potentially dangerous low impedance circuits across the heart.
Founded in 1988 in Rochester, New York, Saelig is a North American distributor with a growing reputation for finding and sourcing remarkable, unique, control and instrumentation products and components for use in a wide variety of industries. Products lines are continuously added from sources across the globe, and are offered at competitive prices, accompanied by full in-house technical support, exceptional customer service, and fast delivery.
