Safe and Healthy Travel Tips
Online, May 19, 2010 (Newswire.com) - May 19th, 2010 | California | US: Wouldn't it be great if you could visit the exotic destinations of the world and feel confident that all areas of possible safety hazards are fixed? If you had the right medication on hand to quickly treat yourself if needed? If you could relax and enjoy the local native or ethnic food without wondering if you'll be sorry tomorrow? Would that add to the fun of your trip?
Some travelers leave their safety in the hands of fate, or the local cooks! Some brush aside the thought of an accident saying 'it won't happen to me'. The truth is calamity can strike anytime, anywhere and to anyone. It is at that time we realize the importance of healthy travel. A few simple precautions before departure will ensure you are not one of those daring souls playing a game of chance with your health.
Here are a few suggestions and healthy travel tips to avoid potential hassles. Plan your vacation early as to avoid a jostled trip. In case of international travel ensure your passport is current and with you at all times. Airlines follow very strict security procedures so make sure you reach the airport for check-in well in advance before departure time. It is best to make a pre-checklist of all items in your luggage in case there are any baggage mishaps along the way. If you are prone to motion sickness, take an anti nausea medication prior to boarding your flight. While in flight, remember to walk in the aisle at intervals to prevent the swelling of feet. In case of international travel make sure to register in your home embassy, in the traveling country, as soon as you descend the flight.
Visit your doctor preferably 6-8 weeks prior to your travel. Get all necessary vaccines, malaria pills and vaccinations. Prepare a Travelers Medical Kit as top-quality medical care isn't always accessible. Photocopy your vaccination record book and retain travel insurance. Carry mosquito repellants and beware of biting insects. Don't go near or touch local animals, and seek rabies vaccine immediately if bitten.
A common concern during travel is food. Avoid eating uncooked or undercooked meat or meat that is not cooked just prior to serving. Stay away from foods that require a lot of handling before serving.
Water supplies in many developing countries are not treated in the same way as water supplies in developed countries. It is suggested that you drink only bottled water when traveling. Even if you're brushing your teeth, rinsing contact lenses, drinking a small glass of water to wash down pills, or adding ice to your drink, first take precautions to ensure the water is safe.
When in other city or country, always respect their customs. Should you run into any concerns visit your Embassy as they will be sure to assist you. Last but not the least don't forget to carry your sunscreen and shades.
A safe travel is a memorable travel. Take care of a few things and enjoy your much deserved vacation. Cheers!!
