Saint Jude Retreats Reviews New Pill Solution for Prescription Drug Addiction
The Saint Jude Retreats reviews the FDA approval of Orexo - a prescription drug used to treat prescription drug addiction.
Online, July 11, 2013 (Newswire.com) - The Saint Jude Retreats recently reviewed an article on the release of FDA approved Orexo. It will be used to treat Opioid addiction, and is similar to the drugs Suboxone and Subutex that are already on the market. These drugs are used as replacement therapy treatment for commonly overused painkillers such as Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Oxycontin and Methadone, a drug that is primarily prescribed as long term replacement therapy for heroin dependence.
According to naturalsociety.com the makers of Orexo AB are "hoping for upwards of $500 million in sales" for the drug from an estimated 5 million people suffering with opioid dependence. Michelle Dunbar, Executive Director of Saint Jude Retreats comments on the obvious conflicts with prescribing yet another prescription drug to solve a prescription drug problem.
Dunbar states, "It is no surprise that the FDA is preparing to approve another drug to treat opioid dependence as it is plain to see that drug treatment fails for nearly everyone. This new drug is quite similar to the drugs Suboxone and Subutex that are readily available and heavily prescribed for the same purpose. When used for short term detox purposes under the close supervision of a doctor, these drugs can help alleviate the often painful symptoms associated with opiate withdrawal, but based on the lack of positive long term results these drugs are not a viable long term solution."
The Saint Jude Retreats offers an alternative to alcohol and drug treatment. The program does not advocate long-term replacement therapy medication as a means to overcome a substance use problem. The program teaches self-control, personal responsibility and empowerment as some of the key components in overcoming drug or alcohol use problems. Dunbar adds, "To truly overcome an opiate problem requires a fundamental change in thinking; you must no longer see yourself as an addict who is powerless. Instead you must embrace and employ the immense, innate power of choice that all people have, to become the person you truly want to be."
Much like many other quick fixes to lifestyle issues, taking pills to fix a pill problem offers only temporary relief by helping you through the initial withdrawal phase; but it will not fix a habitual way of thinking and behaving. Instead it actually reinforces the ideas of powerlessness, personal weakness and helplessness. Making a lasting change requires self awareness and self directed change to take place.
