Samasource Announces Fifth Annual Give Work Gala: From Kenya to California

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA - Samasource, a global nonprofit that provides women and youth in poverty with dignified work in the digital economy, announces its fifth annual Give Work Gala. The event will take place on November 1, 2013 at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco. Over the last five years, the Give Work Gala has drawn the support of philanthropists, entrepreneurs, and tech executives toward the fulfillment of the Samasource mission: to reduce poverty.

Founded in 2008, Samasource invented Microwork™, which aims to create jobs for individuals in poverty including those currently served in Africa, India, Haiti and the US. Since its inception, the global nonprofit has attracted customers such as Google, eBay, Microsoft and others. These companies support the cause by relying on results-driven, socially responsible "impact sourcing" through Samasource as part of their overall outsourcing strategy.

At the event, Samasource Founder and CEO Leila Janah will speak to supporters about the impact of giving work.  "Providing work is the most effective way for people to sustainably improve their way of life and sustain their local economies with needed capital," said Janah. "Thanks to funds raised at the gala, we can increase our ability to decrease poverty." Janah has recently been named "One to Watch" on Fortune's "40 Under 40 2013 list" as well as one of Fortune's "Top Ten Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs" of 2013.  In 2012, she was awarded the inaugural Club De Madrid Young Leadership Award, presented by President Clinton. 

During the gala, the first ever Samasource Impact Awards will be bestowed upon Google (NASDAQ: GOOG), Walmart (NYSE: WMT), Getty Images, 360 Incentives and the California Endowment for their strong support of Samasource's mission. This year's black tie gala will feature a musical performance by the California Honeydrops. Chris Hardwick of The Nerdist fame, who has an upcoming show on Comedy Central, will serve as master of ceremonies.  Merla Zellerbach is serving as the Honorary Chairperson and Mylea Charvat is the Chairperson.
