July 18, 2021— Sunday 2 p.m. (PT)
A panel consisting of William McKeen and Dr. Rory Patrick Feehan (on Zoom) and David Streitfeld and Peter Richardson (in the Canessa Gallery Live) discuss "Hell's Angels as a bridge to Hunter becoming the Gonzo figure in Fear and Loathing." This is the 50th anniversary year of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1971).

This coffee table book showcases new writing by Hunter for the first time since his death: the historic letters Hunter wrote to Harrell (https://margaretharrell.com), the assistant editor to editor-in-chief Jim Silberman at Random House in 1966. Hunter, the founder of Gonzo Journalism, had a lot to say about every step his precious manuscript of Hell's Angels went through. Margaret was the bedazzled mediator/copy editor. This lively presentation unveils Hunter's innermost thoughts as well as his volatile, brilliant personality that would soon become a household word. Margaret uses the letters—scanned in color, complete with doodles—to resuscitate the cloaked, suspenseful withheld drama. The book peaks in their romantic get-together at his ranch after a 21-year hiatus.
