San Pedro, California, a Community in Crisis, Reports San Pedro Citizen Guard, Inc.
This southern most suburb of Los Angeles situated at the LA Harbor has experienced a rapid rise in crime. Overall crime has jumped over 20% in 2015 versus 2014. Alarmingly, total arrests were down 10% during the same period.
San Pedro, CA, March 10, 2016 (Newswire.com) - With local law enforcement citing budget and manpower constraints little is being done to seriously stem the tide and truly address the problems.
One San Pedro resident decided to take the lead in an effort to provide safe streets for the community and has formed a “Citizens on Patrol” program modeled after many similar citizen groups across the country.
"San Pedro Citizen Guard and its volunteers make our community stronger by involving citizens as part of the solution rather than casting them as simple bystanders with no power to act. San Pedro Citizen Guard empowers our citizens to take pride in their communities and contribute to the safety of their neighborhoods". "Any adult can volunteer and work together within the organization to assist and support law enforcement in the prevention and overall reduction in crime."
Lee Dworshak, President/CEO
Lee Dworshak, a 65 year old forty year resident of San Pedro recently formed “San Pedro Citizen Guard.”
Different levels of San Pedro Citizen Guard volunteers provide vital services such as roving street patrol and event security, elder home check-ins, home security checks and other duties assisting other San Pedro support groups.
