San Ysidro Port of Entry to Close to Southbound Vehicle Traffic September 23 - 25

SAN YSIDRO, Calif., July 17, 2017 (Newswire.com) - South County Economic Development Council (SCEDC), along with the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce and General Services Administration (GSA) held a forum Monday, July 17, to discuss the upcoming construction at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, during which time southbound roads will be closed for approximately 57 hours to vehicles.

I-805 South and I-5 South will close at the 905 around 3 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23 and will remain closed until Sept. 25 at noon. Those looking to use the San Ysidro Port of Entry will be rerouted to Otay Mesa during that time. There will also be detours available for people wanting to access the town of San Ysidro.

"We've learned from previous construction, planning and signage are key factors leading up to a closure like this," said Jason Wells, executive director at San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce. "We will work closely with GSA, SANDAG and Caltrans way in advance to help educate those traveling to and through San Ysidro."

Following the road closure, there will be a reduction in southbound lanes during the 18-month construction period. The project is aimed at continuing improvements and efficiencies of cross border travel, including softening the hard-right turn as you enter.
