Online, April 22, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Yorkshire-based principal contractor Sanderson Ltd boasts over 14 years' experience in the retail, hotel and leisure industries. Specialising in construction, fit-out and refurbishment, Sanderson works with big names such as JD Wetherspoon, Mitchells & Butlers Retail, Premier Inn, Nando's and Revolution Bars.
As the business grew, it became apparent that a more robust approach to information management was required. Like most construction businesses in the UK, Sanderson was storing all business data under a standard yellow folder structure which, over the years, had become quite complex and difficult to control. Recognising room for improvement in other areas such as version control, document issuing and email management, and keen to be at the forefront of new technology, the business set about its search for a new IT solution. This search led to Union Square for Construction.
Union Square for Construction is a web-based information management system that stores documents, drawings and emails against contacts, organisations and projects. The system is based on industry best practice and streamlines common construction processes for a truly integrated way of working. Andrew Kneeshaw, Commercial Director, explains the reasons behind Sanderson's decision to implement Union Square. "We don't have a dedicated IT specialist within the company, so the out-of-the-box solution that Union Square offers was a real selling point," says Andrew. "Many of the other systems in the market require a lot of IT input, but the Standard implementation from Union Square is already tailored to suit a company like ours, plus we can make small tweaks ourselves if required. It's a slick product."
Andrew arranged for all existing company data to be thoroughly checked and cleaned prior to implementation. He also, along with two colleagues acted as a guinea pig, using the system for a month before it was rolled out to the rest of the business. Since its full roll out users have picked up the system much faster than Andrew expected, and the whole business was up and running ahead of schedule.
"We've been using the system for several weeks now and are already realising the benefits. There's a structured way of dealing with all information, our email procedures are streamlined and there's a policy in place for filing (which was our main aim). Everyone can access all the information on a job, making things much more transparent. It's changed our way of working for the better," concludes Andrew.
