SandStar Shines in GITEX Tech Week 2019 With Eye-Catching AI Retail Technology

SandStar's AI-Powered Retail area was a big hit

SandStar, the AI startup which is constantly exploring the edge of new retail, had a stunning performance during GITEX Tech Week 2019, which took place in Dubai World Trade Centre from Oct. 6-10, 2019.

This is the largest and most influential technology exhibition in the Middle East. SandStar was invited by Middle East telecom giant Etisalat for the second year – last year it joined with former name YI Tunnel.

Under the theme “Synergising the Mind and Technology Economy,” GITEX attracted over 100,000 tech enthusiasts and business leaders from 140 countries. Together with Huawei, Alibaba Cloud and Cisco, SandStar showcased the AI-Powered Retail technology, including AI Autonomous Checkout Machine, Robotic Checkout Machine, Facial Attributes Analysis and Body Skeleton Analysis. With the highly interactive experience, SandStar was the hit of the show. CEO of Etisalat came four times to introduce the technology to different audiences.

SandStar has been using the facial attributes analysis and body skeleton analysis onto the unmanned store solution as well as the smart retail analysis. It analyses the age range, gender, mood, smile intense, head position and body movements to generate insights on customer profiles, shopping behaviors, and eventually help retailers make intelligent decisions on product selection, smart display, promotion strategy and store management.

The AI Checkout Machine and Robotic Checkout Assistant showcase the efficient checkout experience with pure computer vision. For the non-standard products like fruits and vegetables, the machine can identify and weigh products at the same time, as well as calculating the price and support various payment methods. It has been launched in China in 2018 and now ready to launch in the Middle East and the rest of the world.

“We deeply appreciate the great opportunity to work with Etisalat again to showcase our cutting-edge technology in GITEX,” says Yili Wu, Founder and CEO of SandStar. “The collaboration between Etisalat and SandStar in the past 2 years has been amazing. We have been in touch with many local customers in UAE to deploy the smart retail solution.”

Headquartered in Beijing, SandStar has announced its Series B funding in September 2019. Founded in 2017, SandStar (formerly known as YI Tunnel) uses Computer Vision and AI-powered big data analysis to digitize offline data in retail scenes. As one of the most fast-growing companies in AI retail, SandStar has developed 4 product lines: AI Vending Machine, AI Check-out Machine, Pure Computer Vision Unmanned Store and Smart Store Analysis. Its business launched in 11 countries, serving over 20 Fortune 500 companies globally to build the AI retail ecosystem. The team has over 220 tech experts now.
