THIS SUNDAY! Don't Miss ABC's Extreme Home Makeover:
Bringing An Abundance of Natural Light to a Deserving Family
Sanford, Maine. September XX, 2010 - Sanford Maine's Wasco Skylights joins the cast and crew ABC's Emmy Award-winning Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Sunday Oct.3 to present a new home to the Lutz family of East Setauket, NY who are struggling to keep their seven adopted adult siblings with Downs Syndrome at home.
Over the years, Grace and John Lutz opened their hearts and homes to eighteen adopted children, including seven with Down Syndrome. After the couple passed away, their daughter Kathleen, gave up her career and returned home to take care of her developmentally challenged siblings, currently range in age from 20 to 25 years old, so that they would not be placed in a group home or institution.
Her brother John Jr. responded by sacrificing his successful career as a gymnastics coach and moving back home as well to and for his sister and other siblings. Currently, Kathleen's health has stabilized and both brother and sister care for their family as a team.
However, the poor condition of their 40-year-old home is apparent with unsafe wiring, extensive water damage, mold and rotting wood everywhere. Working in conjunction with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition crews, including more than 1,000 volunteers have been working 24/7 to build a new home for this deserving family.
One of the home's most impressive features is the Wasco Skylight. And although the details need to be kept a secret until the big reveal, the Wasco skylight is a major design feature and adds an abundance of natural light to the new home.
"This was one of the most rewarding experiences we've had here at Wasco in the recent past. We hope that our fellow Mainers tune in on October 3, 2010 to share our joy when the Lutz family finally gets to see their new dream home." said Jeff Frank, CEO of Wasco Skylights.
Sara Havard, COO of Wasco Skylights commented that "working with Extreme Makeover Home Edition was a great opportunity for us to help a family who very much deserved a new home. I hope the Lutz family enjoys the benefits of all the natural daylight that spills from our skylight into their new home every day.
