Sangam University Bhilwara Celebrates Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti

It is indeed unfortunate that the youth in India today know more about English Poet - Playwright William Shakespeare and Italian Painter Leonardo da Vinci than all rolled in one polymath Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.

Scientist Albert Einstein and Rabindranath Tagore, both shared the conviction about Universality of knowledge and its infinite existence. Their undiminished faith in man and ever striving effort to gain knowledge is the legacy they have left for the future generation.

In the words of Gurudev "The highest education is that which does not merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence." Well before the era of technology based social networking like Google+, Twitter and Facebook, Tagore had talked about the globalized world linked by thoughts and cultures. It is indeed a matter of pride that the national anthems of India and Bangladesh were indeed penned by Tagore.

Nobel Laureate Tagore (07 May 1861 - 07 August 1941) is a Poet, Novelist, Musician, Painter, social reformer, Playwright and freedom fighter all rolled in one. However, it has been a tradition to observe Rabindra Jayanti always on Pochishe Boishakh (Twenty fifth day in the Month of Baisakh) and for the year 2013 with Poila Baishak falling on 15 April, Pochishe is on 09 May 2013.

To mark the 152nd birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore and the centenary of Gurudev winning the Nobel Prize for Gitanjali, Sangam University Bhilwara organized a colourful function in which students and faculty enthusiastically participated. The celebrations included playing of selected hit Hindi film songs from Bollywood along with their original Tagore songs in Bengali. Prof BR Natarajan President - Vice Chancellor highlighted the significance of the day following which a specially made video set to the music of Ekla Chalo Re to commemorate the occasion by faculty member Miss Sonu Chowdhury was played to the audience.
