Sankara Eye Hospital Unveils World's Largest Eye Chart
Online, October 12, 2012 (Newswire.com) - To create awareness among the public about the need for preventive eye care, on the occasion of the 'World Sight Day', Sankara Eye Hospital Sightsavers and Essilor created World's largest vision chart. The vision chart, measuring 7000 sq.ft (100X70), was displayed on the façade of a building at Bannergatta Road. The snellen vision chart has been developed by doctors from Sankara Eye hospital worked with the Sankara College of Optometry. The letters of the chart were arranged to bring the message, "I am your eyes, check me yearly", in line with the theme of , "Eye test for all", adopted by the National Programme for Prevention of Blindness, Govt of India.
Similar charts were displayed in other prominent areas of the city: Majestic Railway Station and KSRTC/BMTC bus stands of BIAL, Majestic, Vijayanagar, Shantinagar, Jayanagar,Shivajinagar, Kengeri, Yeshwantpur and Whitefield.
'The World Sight Day' was opted as an occasion for Sankara Eye Hospital to build a creative platform for 30 visually impaired children from various blind schools in the city. The hospital conducted a unique workshop - "Insight - Clay Modeling, Many Ways of Seeing".
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Y Umesh, Chief Medical Officer said "At Sankara Eye Hospital, we have made preventive eye care services as a top priority. Children who are blind or visually impaired should be encouraged to engage in creative expression. Our Nanna Kannu programme in association with Sightsavers, looks at comprehensive eye care - Preventive, Curative and Rehabilitative care making it a unique initiative".
