Santa Fe ISP CNSP Applies for $6 Million Stimulus Grant

Federal funds to bring broadband to rural northern New Mexico

Computer Network Services Professionals (CNSP), an Internet Services Provider with an 11-year track record of providing internet services in rural north central New Mexico today announced its application for $6.3 million in stimulus grants as provided under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (aka "Stimulus Act"). If funded, the expansion of CNSP's high-speed network will provide wireless broadband Internet services to underserved residents, businesses and governments in Torrance, Sandoval, Valencia, Bernalillo, Rio Arriba and Santa Fe counties. If funded, the project may be one of the larger job-creating opportunities created by the Stimulus Act in New Mexico.

CNSP has applied to both the Department of Agriculture and Department of Commerce for grant funds aimed at connecting the unconnected in America's more rural communities. CNSP's project, if funded, will support a range of healthcare, education, public safety and job creation initiatives in those communities. New Mexico's congressional delegation has unanimously endorsed CNSP's application for these funds. In addition a number of community leaders from across northern New Mexico have written letters of support for CNSP's application. CNSP founder Albert Catanach states "It is our intent to use this network to improve the quality of life for members of the communities we will serve with this funding. Not only that, there is a distinct connection between broadband availability and economic development and we will capitalize on that connection to benefit the people of New Mexico."

CNSP estimates that almost 200 jobs could be created directly or indirectly by the grants. The new network will also support schools across those counties and will improve public safety measures through a wider availability of broadband services. Federal authorities will announce grant winners in November of this year with network construction projects beginning shortly there after.

About CNSP: Founded in 1998 by Albert Catanach, a service-disabled Veteran (Chief Warrant Officer 3, US Army, retired) who was selected as one of the Top 100 Federal IT Persons among all the agencies in the Federal Government by Federal Computer Week (http://www.fcw.com) in 2000 (that year's peer group included former US Attorney General Janet Reno, many Military Generals, The Governor of Virginia, and many Congressional Representatives). CNSP provides broadband Internet services to residences and businesses across northern New Mexico. CNSP offers broadband services via wireless and wired networks. With thousands of subscribers, CNSP is New Mexico's largest locally owned ISP.
