Savoy Overcomes Disability While Writing Second Novel

Author uses second book to rehab a serious surgical complication.

Secret Cravings Publishing is pleased to announce the release of Skye Savoy's, "Waking Up Dead," a paranormal romantic comedy featuring fallen angels and a southern fried cast of characters.

Half-way into writing, "Waking Up Dead," Savoy lost the use of her dominant hand due to complications from elbow surgery. Writing her second novel turned into a rehabilitative process.

"I was told the loss of mobility in my wrist and fingers might be permanent. Once I navigated the stages of grief, I threw myself into one-handed typing which turned into pecking with the totally numb fingers on the right hand," said Savoy.

Suing the physician was out of the question, according to Savoy. The author worked as the marketing director for the facility which employed the attending physician and Tort Reform in Mississippi usually allows for compensation due to death or dismemberment. The author did the only thing she knew to do. She wrote the characters into her novel and paid them back-literally.

"The heroine in 'Waking Up Dead' fought and overcame her demon with the same faith, humor and determination I used to regain the partial use of my hand."

The author based the novel in a fictional town in Tennessee similar to where she spent summers with her grandparents. The heroine, Ava Lowery, is a caterer who awakes one morning to find she's met an early demise. She persuades Suriyel, the fallen angel who's come to collect her soul to give her a chance to find her killer. The angel places her in a younger body and helps her fend off a demon. Ava falls for Suriyel in between arguing with her deceased mother/guardian angel, rescuing relatives from dumpsters and battling possessed Elvis impersonators.
