The City of Rockville men's softball season got underway last night with its usual excitement and suspense. Defending champions Scared Hitless (formerly The Master Batters) played the season opening double header against a formidable opponent and performed quite well.

Scared Hitless began the evening a little slowly allowing a handful of runs in the first few innings of the first game. Both the offense and the defense looked rusty to begin the game but both came around quickly. The fundamentals were regained quickly and despite dropping the first half of the doubleheader, Scared Hitless picked up speed late in the game. The boys were able to carry the momentum into the second game jumping all over the opposing pitcher in the first inning. After a barrage of hits stretching the entire lineup, Hitless took a commanding lead that lasted until the game was called due to darkness.

Impressive performances were put on by the 4 outfielders who had to battle windy conditions and a newly designed softball that carried and spun differently than previous models. Excellent throws were made to prevent the usually speedy opposing team from stretching base hits.

The infield was stellar as always with ground balls rarely making it through to the grass. The putouts were made in high-quality fashion looking as if it was already midseason and an exciting tag was made by the catcher at home plate to end an inning.
The pitching was consistent with 1 strikeout, only 1 walk and only a spattering of meatballs.
