Scots Charity Helensburgh Heroes Granted Planning Permission for Proposed Arts & Entertainment Centre

Helensburgh Heroes is delighted to announce that Argyll & Bute Council has granted planning permission for the change of use of premises at 19 George Street, Helensburgh, the site of the Scottish Charity's proposed Community Arts and Entertainment

Originally a Victorian industrial warehouse and yard, the Charity plans to convert the building into a three story multipurpose Arts and Entertainment centre which will include two digital cinema/event auditoriums, a Helensburgh themed 50s style diner, a Wi-Fi enabled chill out area and an area for arts and exhibitions.

Included within the fabric of the building will be a 'Hall of Fame', combining the various elements of the Centre with memorabilia and displays to celebrate the lives of the local men and women who have real connections with the area, and have contributed so greatly to society. Over 100 inspirational inductees have been identified to date, including 'Father of Television' John Logie Baird, Hollywood stars Deborah Kerr and Jack Buchanan, authors WH Auden and AJ Cronin and members of the Glasgow Boys and Girls Arts movement.

A spokesman for Helensburgh Heroes stated: "The granting of the planning permission represents the completion of our first major project milestone and we are naturally delighted with the decision."

"The Helensburgh Heroes' Board would like to thank everyone who took the time to formally submit their comments during the application process and would like to especially acknowledge the tremendous efforts of both Organic Architects and MH Planning Associates on the Charity's behalf."

"The granting of this planning permission ensures that we can now enter the detailed design and financing phases of the project on schedule, and we remain confident that we will achieve a late 2012 opening."

"The Heroes Centre will be a valuable addition to the town, and will provide an exciting new facility for all ages."
