ScripNet Selects ReCept Pharmacy as its Preferred Compounding Provider

Compounding allows physicians to tailor dosage strengths, combine or flavor medications for increased compliance, and prevent allergic reactions at a lower cost.

Las Vegas, NV - March 16, 2010 ScripNet, a nationwide pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) that contracts with workers' compensation insurance carriers and pharmacies, is pleased to announce the selection of ReCept Pharmacy as its preferred provider for dispensing compounded medications. Effective March 16, 2010, Workers' Compensation members enrolled for coverage with ScripNet will be encouraged to have their compounded medication prescriptions filled by ReCept Pharmacy.

"ScripNet has chosen to partner with ReCept Pharmacy because ReCept specializes in the preparation and distribution of compounded medications," said Dennis Sponer, President and CEO of ScripNet. "ReCept Pharmacy has a history of quality compounding, including independent laboratory testing and verification of their compounding facilities," he continued, "so patients will benefit from improvements in consistency, quality, and timeliness in receiving their compounded medications because of ReCept's specialization and expertise."

"ReCept Pharmacy is pleased to be partnering with ScripNet to service their workers' compensation patients in Texas and across the nation," said Nicky Otts, President and CEO of ReCept. "This is a unique program that will truly benefit both patients and providers while lowering costs for ScripNet's customers."

ReCept Pharmacy will facilitate the prior authorization for these medications as all compounded medications require prior authorization for coverage through ScripNet. The prior authorization process provides a safety net to assure the appropriate composition of all compounded medications before being dispensed to the claimant. This program will help patients receive their medications more quickly while decreasing administrative time for physicians. For additional information please contact Richard Koszegi at ScripNet at (702) 851-3824 or Regina Wentworth at ReCept Pharmacy at (817) 572-0009 extension 129.

About Compounding
Compounding is the process of mixing pharmaceuticals to the specifications of a customized prescription and for a growing number of people who have unique health needs, compounded medications are the only way to meet that need. Compounded medications are prescribed by physicians and mixed safely by licensed compounding pharmacists. Through compounding, pharmacists can mix drugs at lower doses that are better tolerated by children or omit an ingredient to which a patient is allergic. According to CompoundingFacts.org other advantages of compounding occur when:

- Treatment requires tailored dosage strengths for patients with unique needs (for example, an infant);
- The patient is allergic to certain preservatives, dyes or binders in manufactured medications;
- A pharmacist can combine several medications the patient is taking into one product to increase compliance;
- The patient cannot ingest the medication in its commercially available form and a pharmacist can prepare the medication into a topical cream or gel, a liquid, suppository or other dosage form that the patient can more easily use;
- Medications require flavor additives to make them more palatable for some patients, most often children;
- Needed medications are discontinued by, or generally unavailable from, pharmaceutical companies often because the medications are no longer profitable to manufacture.

Compounding pharmacies are licensed and regulated in the 50 states and the District of Columbia by their respective state boards of pharmacy.
