Ambulatory Healthcare Services (AHS), a SEHA Health System Facility, extended its support to the ongoing Pink Caravan Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign here at the Khalifa A Healthcare Centre in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi- Ambulatory Healthcare Services (AHS), a SEHA Health System Facility, extended its support to the ongoing Pink Caravan Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign here at the Khalifa A Healthcare Centre in Abu Dhabi. The Pink Caravan began its journey on April 2, 2011 from Sharjah and travelled through all seven Emirates before arriving at Khalifa A Healthcare Centre on April 10 for a two-day stay to mark the end of its journey.

With the support of AHS, 'Pink Caravan' conducted a two-day awareness campaign at Khalifa A Healthcare Centre. The 'Pink Caravan' team arrived onsite at the Khalifa A Healthcare Centre at 8 am and continued serving patients till 8pm on the 10th and 11th of April. The Caravan carried two teams; one team led by a physician was engaged in counseling and physical examinations of patients. This team also explained breast self examination, performed clinical breast examination and refer ladies above 40 years for mammograms. The other team was responsible for carrying out Mammograms inside the Pink Caravan truck.

AHS played an eminent role in extending its maximum support to the 'Pink Caravan' and dedicated members of its medical team for mammogram referrals and other related areas. "We are extremely proud of this association between AHS and Pink Caravan, and are more than happy to support such initiatives. We look forward to working with Pink Caravan on similar initiatives in future", said Dr. Abdul Hadi Al Ahbabi, AHS - COO. As a result of this association, a total of 168 women visited the Caravan for screening, checkups and consultation purposes, making the campaign a huge success.

Pink Caravan is an innovative Breast Cancer awareness campaign that is part of the Friends of Cancer Patients Society. The campaign organized a horse-back ride across the UAE, which began in Sharjah and marked its end at its final destination in Abu Dhabi yesterday, with the objective of screening 1000 women using both clinical examination and mammograms. The Caravan aims to become a vehicle for change by engaging all breast cancer related NGO's to join hands and unify UAE awareness efforts. In doing so, Pink Caravan encourages easy access of state of the art early screening technology for all women in the UAE. The Caravan is an ongoing three year campaign focusing its efforts on providing programs to spread awareness through education and screening, particularly in remote regions within the UAE and serve the community at large.

In the past, AHS has been actively supporting and initiating Breast Cancer Awareness campaigns in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi every year. These campaigns have contributed significantly towards creating awareness about the disease and its preventive measures and are held every year at all AHS healthcare centres across Al Ain and Abu Dhabi, with information booths, medical education material and free consultation available at each venue. SEHA Health Systems has been extensively and repeatedly involved in breast cancer awareness efforts and campaigns in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in association with HAAD (Health Authority of Abu Dhabi) and in affiliation with renowned international healthcare institutions such as John Hopkins Medicine.
