Selangor and durian producer and exporter, The Funding Partners Inc., delivered the state's first maiden shipment of durian paste to China today, sending 20 tonnes to what is an already lucrative market for the superfruit.
“The state will undertake various programs to increase durian farming to an even larger scale to accommodate the impending influx of durian shipment to China,” he commented to reporters at the launch event.
“Malaysian farmers will need to be better educated and be able to utilize technology so that the durian process will become more efficient,” he said.
The Funding Partners aims to continue shipping up to 100 tonnes of durian paste to China by the rest of 2018, which requires an estimated 500 tonnes of freshly produced durians.
The Funding Partners utilizes blockchain technology within their supply chains that enable the firm to produce higher quality durians and also optimizes value through increased cost savings.
Malaysian Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek also mentioned that the department is working with The Funding Partners to identify suitable durian farmland in Miri and Kuching to increase the country’s durian production as China is expected to lift their ban on Malaysia’s fresh durian imports before 2020. This is expected to increase Malaysia’s durian economy by an estimated three times.
CEO of The Funding Partners, Jim Edwards mentioned, “China favours only a select few breeds of durians, such as the Musang King or “Mao Shan Wang” and Black Thorn. My firm and I have always been a step ahead of the curve and have already planted new durian trees with these 2 breeds. They are expected to undergo their first harvest by the end of this year, in time for our predicted increase in durian export. The Funding Partners aims to be the leading durian company not only locally, but for the rest of the world as well.”
