SEOLawFirm.com's New Legal Newsroom Features Political Column

SEOLawFirm.com, publicly launched its legal newsroom today. The company's staff reporters release articles on various legal topics each week.

In an effort to become more of a resource for both attorneys and individuals needing legal counsel, SEOLawFirm.com opened its newsroom today. The newsroom, which is referred to as "SEOLawFirm.com Legal Marketing Blog and Newsroom", is filled with articles written by staff writers.

The company selected four main areas of interest, including the U.S. Supreme Court, Technology cases, Politics and a general practice column. Each of the four staff contributors publishes an article one week out of every month. Among the most controversial is the Politics column.

The management of SEOLawFirm.com's parent company, Adviatech, debated among themselves for some time when deciding on the four beginning topics for the newsroom articles. With political ideas being extremely polarized in America, the company did not want to display a bias under their brand.

Some managers at Adviatech feared that political commentary on the company's website might discourage attorneys from contacting the company about marketing services, since there may be cases in which an attorney disagrees with the tone of a featured article. Jason Bland, who has taken over Adviatech's law firm marketing brand over the last year, closed the debate by saying "I think our readers and clients are well educated adults that can handle political commentary."

An internal poll conducted by Adviatech in 2008 showed political diversity among their staff members. The company encourages staff members to be politically involved and even offers incentives for employees to volunteer at polls (regardless of affiliation) by closing on primary and general election days. While Adviatech's parent companies and employees of Adviatech may contribute to various causes, Adviatech Corporation does not donate to candidates or political organizations in an effort to maintain neutrality.

Bland continued with his support for the column by saying, "There was a day in history that political differences were argued out among friends and family members without this jejune demonizing of the opposition. Chris Kazor [Adviatech's other partner] and I have differing political views and get into frequent debates and arguments. We then continue enjoying our cigars and nobody's feelings are hurt, which is how a competent voting American should act over differing viewpoints. Our columns in the newsroom shouldn't scare anybody away."

Staff writer Gode Davis, who will be including commentary in some of his pieces, covers the political section of the newsroom.

The other columns in the newsroom are related to cases, pending and historical, in various practice areas, and, since the company's core services are technology based, staff writer Kerrie Spencer has a dedicated section focusing solely on technology issues.

A feature of the legal newsroom that will help balance out viewpoints is the invitation to attorneys and users of the site to submit a story. SEOLawFirm.com is currently talking to several attorneys about becoming regular contributors to the newsroom, covering current events related to their primary practice area. Anybody with legitimate credentials may submit stories or story ideas, a feature that the company hopes will rapidly take off. Submissions must be related to legal news and follow the same editorial guidelines that are placed on the staff writers.

The submission guidelines require sourcing on all pieces and do allow political commentary from non-staff contributors, with an emphasis on the importance of the pieces being newsworthy.

Bland said, "We want to encourage user submitted news. However, the newsroom is not intended to be an opinion blog or a medium for submitting press releases. Once the newsroom becomes an active part of SEOLawFirm.com, I believe it will add a lot of value to our users' experience."
