September, 2018: Nautic Alert ® is NOAA VMS Type-Approved for Alaskan Commercial Fishermen, and Packs Big Features and Benefits

Nautic Alert Insight X2

Nautic Alert just unveiled one of the most technologically-advanced marine monitoring, tracking, safety and security systems designed specifically for yachts in a global EDGE-based IoT solution, and is now type-approved for commercial fishermen in Alaska. Nautic Alert Insight is designed to deliver the most modern and simplistic design in a VMS solution seen to date, and offers some key benefits never before seen in a VMS solution which also includes superior low hardware and airtime costs.

Nautic Alert keeps fisherman productive and up-to-date with one-touch WiFi-based over-the-air firmware updates and an upcoming high-availability cloud-solution for communication redundancy fail over when large-scale internet outages occur. Insight will soon be offered in other VMS regions as well, and enables fishermen to lose the tablet and messaging configuring with an all-inclusive forms and messaging interface that works out-of-the-box on a ruggedized marine-grade MFD, once Insight is activated with a VMS subscription.  With Nautic Alert, configuring POP email settings, tablets, and application updates and settings are simply a thing of the past. Messaging is simplified, optimized, and controlled for NOAA and authorized recipients to optimize payload over satellite, meaning fishermen can expect consistent low monthly data costs without surprises due to spam and conventional message overhead.

The Insight X2 MFD is a required component for VMS, and optionally can also be used for globally monitored search-and-rescue, two-way text messaging, and more. Nautic Alert is an early event detection system that can also include other optional wireless components, such as an advanced UL508 certified Nevata bilge controller designed to eliminate the float, outdoor intrusion sensors, multi-bank DC monitoring and trending, man-overboard, freezer temperature sensors, and much more, and even offers both insurance discounts as well as bundled broadband services through Nearshore Networks, designed to save large amounts of recurring costs on new and existing broadband and sat phone services. Best of all, Nautic Alert is priced lower than most other VMS solutions and offers applications beyond VMS in a modern graphical form-factor without bulky legacy hardware and antennas.

“End user simplicity and installation is key to productivity for all fishermen,” said Nick Velado, VP of Engineering for Nautic Alert. “Fishermen don’t have time to hassle with configuring or locating tablets, keeping them charged, setting up email accounts and settings, and being bogged down with processes. Nautic Alert is the ideal product they’ve been waiting for that just works out-of-the-box in a fully-integrated solution, and goes beyond VMS with useful security and safety features they already want and need. In fact, Insight is a marine-grade MFD that draws less than 150mA, and is a total protection solution for the vessel, crew, management, and all assets, truly a game-changer. Additionally, Alaska is known for severe satellite communications challenges due to a variety of factors, but our Iridium-based Insights have shown incredible performance and reliability in this challenging environment.”

A low-cost Nautic Alert Insight X2 VMS package is now available through Gemeco Marine Accessories that includes all required components, including low-profile high-performance antennas and a stainless steel mounting bracket for the Insight MFD, that can be installed in as little as two hours. VMS services are activated through Nearshore Networks web-portal, and VMS features are automatically configured behind the scenes through over-the-air provisioning. Gemeco not only makes it possible to connect with over 6500 US dealers and installers, but can also offer credit terms necessary for NOAA reimbursement programs fisherman rely on.  For more information contact [email protected], or contact Gemeco at 1-843-210-7000.
