Serco Announce ISS As New Vehicle Safety Partner

World-leading public service provider, Serco, has announced a new partnership with vehicle safety experts, Innovative Safety Systems Ltd (ISS).

ISS will be the sole supplier of vehicle safety equipment to the company's fleet of refuse and recycling vehicles across their environmental services business.

ISS helped to put together a vehicle safety package based around Serco's requirements and current design, with some additional enhancements. The aim is to create a uniform fleet of vehicles, equipped with the latest safety features.

Dean Hurry, Fleet Support Manager for Serco Direct Services, said: "Protecting crews, members of the public and other road users is a high priority for us, so we wanted to work with one supplier to ensure a consistent approach to the specification of vehicle safety equipment across all our environmental services vehicles and fleets. ISS have been very helpful in this process and we look forward to continuing working with them."

ISS' team of field engineers will be responsible for fitting and maintaining the equipment, which includes high resolution reversing camera systems and LED lighting, on a range of vehicles used for refuse collection, cleansing and general maintenance.

Dean continued: "ISS has developed a matrix for us defining the right specification of equipment for each vehicle. Consistency across our fleet will make it easier for us to transfer vehicles between contracts and we only have one number to call if there are any issues. The quality of the equipment means that it is reasonably maintenance free, but if we need them ISS are there at the drop of a hat."

ISS is a one-stop vehicle safety and efficiency technology provider encompassing supply, maintenance and service, and its portfolio includes reverse camera systems, vehicle CCTV, hard disk recording (DVR), reversing radar, fuel saving module, vehicle tracking systems, LED lighting and warning beacons.

Gavin Thoday, Director, ISS Ltd: "This is an exciting contract and a great opportunity. We believe our products and our service to be the best available and we look forward to working with Serco to create a safer, more standardised fleet."

Serco's environmental services business, provides refuse and recycling collection, grounds maintenance and street cleansing services to more than a dozen local authorities throughout the UK.

Sandwell MBCl will be the first of Serco's customers to benefit from the new ISS safety equipment specification, when they receive a new fleet, comprising 20 Geesink Norba RCV's, in August this year.
