Sex Does Not Affect Driving Skills
Female drivers perceived as better drivers than male counterparts in Australia
Online, February 7, 2011 (Newswire.com) - The prevailing view that women drivers are worse than men has been dispelled, according to the results of a nationwide survey released today.
Of the 1008 (one thousand eight hundred)people surveyed across Australia, more than half of all respondents (54%) said the fairer sex was as good, if not better, behind the wheel of a car than their male counterparts.
The survey, conducted by Australian peer-to-peer car rental company DriveMyCar Rentals, indicated Canberra-based drivers were the least prejudiced against women, while NSW were the most outspoken about women's driving skills - with 87% and 49% respectively saying gender does not impact on driving skill levels.
Not surprisingly, older drivers were the least sexist when it came to commenting on the capabilities of women drivers, while younger people were the most sexist.
Commenting on the results of the survey, Daniel Noble, founder of DriveMyCar Rentals, said: "For too long, women have been the focus of most comments about bad drivers on the road. It is pleasing to see this perception is now changing."
DriveMyCar Rentals promotes and facilitates peer-to-peer car rentals, connecting individual car owners with drivers looking for an alternative to traditional vehicle hire at a lower cost.
