WHY:
There's a culture war being fought over Barbie's plastic body in Culver City and in the blogoshpere inspired by Daena Title's controversial art show "Drown the Dolls" at Koplin Del Rio. The "Should Barbie Sink or Swim?" panel event will encourage the community to participate in the intriguing discussion about the art exhibition. Does Title's work empower women or perpetuate violence against them? Does Barbie present "suffocating ideals of feminine beauty"? Perhaps it is another case in which "radical feminism which has been attempting to rob every woman of her femininity, marriage and a womb for the past 50 years is the real threat to women, not Barbie". Viewers can use their unique experiences with Barbie to interpret the paintings in their own way.
