Silhouette Flooring Launch Contour Guard Which Offers Protection Against Gapping
Online, February 11, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Avant-Guard Marketing - which owns Silhouette Flooring - has put into motion a new product which is taking the industry by storm: Contour Guard. The major goal of Contour Guard is to get rid of unsightly light lines on hardwood floors when it comes to gapping, but it also provides many other types of protection such as anti-stain and aqua resistance. As explained by Dany Bourdages, head of sales at Avant Guard Marketing, this technology will make wood surfaces easier to clean, resistant to scratches, better protected against the sun, more resilient towards the suns rays, better sealed towards water, and of course much more sanitary.
He Mentions how all these advances came from one single new process with a six ingredient formula for success: "Contour Guard offers a protection against gapping, which means that not only the surface, but each side of the board as well as the male and female connecting pieces."
A technology that is currently in the process of being patented enables Silhouette to stain the insides of the boards. Normally the finishing plant varnishes 3600 feet an hour, and the key was finding a system that would not slow down their production or mess up its rhythm. They spent over 8 months working on and designing this process. Mr. Bourdages explains that most finishing plants work with a system where 20 feet of flooring are connected together and then stained all at once. The big difference is that at Silhouette they developed a way to separate the individual pieces of solid hardwood flooring at one point on the manufacturing line to enable the Contour guard spray to hit all the important sides of the board, not just the top.
"Underneath each one of our boards, we apply an anti-aqua protection thanks to a special sealant. For example, a floor placed in an area with high humidity will be far more resilient against humidity because of the sealants underneath and on all sides."
This doesn't mean you can throw caution to the wind, by any means. Installing hardwood flooring should still be done in a proper fashion, avoiding humid areas and bumpy surfaces. Contour Guard will stack the odds in your favour but proper installation is key in having a floor that will last you 20+ years.
