Simi Community Christmas 2010 brings together the spirit of Christmas with art and entertainment designed for the family in a regal setting. The annual event will run for 4 consecutive days, beginning Wednesday, December 1st and concluding on Saturday, December 4th. The extensive popular event, a gift to the community from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is open 5:00 - 9:00 PM, and is held at the Church located at 408 Sinaloa Rd., Simi Valley. Admission is free and open to the public.

Over 450 crèches or nativity scenes, collected from all over the world will be artistically displayed. Also featured will be a presentation of a living nativity. According to Leila Jones, coordinator of this annual event, the crèches are an expression of love from each of these cultures to show of their deep belief and abiding love in Jesus Christ. You will be amazed at the variety of art styles using different media from crystal, gold and porcelain, to wood, cloth on rice or a pin head and even paper.

The musical programs will feature a large variety of performers including vocal soloists, both classical and contemporary, instrumentalists, school choirs and instrumental ensembles, plus a children's and a youth choir.

Local schools in performance through the event include Valley View Middle School, Sinaloa Middle School, Royal High and Moorpark College from choirs to bands and orchestras. Entertainers from bagpipes to bell ringers, quartets to Southern California's A-Capella Doo Wop sensation "First Take", to noted top 100 artist in the nation "Arlene Kole". Adding choirs and baritones, jazz ensembles and Harpists "Elaine Litster" and "Mary Predmore" and a children's opera, The Kid Who Cried Wolf, by Once Upon an Opera rounds out a complete musical feast for the holiday mood under the direction of Linda Smith.

For a musical finale this year, on Saturday, December 4th at 7:30 PM, will be a special presentation of a "Messiah Sing-Along" directed by Frank Turner, with Peter Ryan, organist; soloists Marilyn Anderson, soprano; Danielle Bond, mezzo soprano; Sri Silva, tenor and Matthew Welch bass, and with the audience as the chorus.

Visitors may choose to browse through the exhibits while listening to the performances, or they may choose to take a seat in the chapel and have a front row seat for each of the mini concerts. Special children's activities are being planned to bring the child into the spirit of Christmas.
