The Singex Group reinforces its role as key player in Asia's growing MICE industry Singapore
Online, August 30, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The Singex Group reinforces its role as key player in Asia's growing MICE industry Singapore, 29 August 2012 - The Association Internationale des Palais de Congrès (AIPC) or International Association of Congress Centres has elected Mr Aloysius Arlando, Chief Executive Officer of the Singex Group, to its Board of Directors, effective from 4 July 2012.
Founded in 1958, AIPC is the industry association for professional convention and exhibition centre managers worldwide and represents a global network of 170 leading centres in 54 countries. It is
committed to encouraging and recognising excellence in convention centre management, based on the diverse experience and expertise of its international representation, and maintains a variety of
educational, research, networking and standards programs to achieve this.
The Singex Group is a business event organiser and venue manager for Singapore EXPO Convention and Exhibition Centre, which is a long standing member of the AIPC. Aloysius' nomination as the first Asian to the AIPC Board of Directors reflects AIPC's growing membership and interest in the Asian marketplace which now hosts more than one fifth of the world's meetings.
"We are delighted that someone of Aloysius' standing and capabilities has agreed to serve on the AIPC board", said AIPC President, Mr Edgar Hirt. "He manages a facility with an excellent reputation and we are confident that he will not only represent our Asian members well, but also provide good governance for the association as a whole".
At the Singex Group, Aloysius has focused on building up the Singex portfolio of international MICE-related ventures, as well as developing its suite of business event solutions and venue management services to new standards. Before joining Singex, he spent 18 years in various leadership positions in the Singapore public sector with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), and the Singapore Ministry of Trade & Industry, focusing on the advancement of Singapore's tourism and business travel industries, given the intensifying competition in the Asian region. He also served as the Executive Director of the Organising Committee for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Singapore 2009 series of high-level inter-governmental and corporate meetings and as Chairman of Meeting Planners International Asia-Pacific Council.
"I am honoured to accept this appointment", said Mr Arlando. "My MICE experience and industry network will provide added impetus to my role at AIPC, to help facilitate the continuing growth, profile
and activities of AIPC in the international meetings industry. In a competitive and changing global business environment, knowledge exchange and collaboration have become important factors for success, and I believe AIPC fulfills this critical role".
The MICE industry is increasingly ROI-driven - organisers and delegates want more value in return for the money and time they invested. Following the same principles of management excellence like AIPC, Singex adopts a strong people-centric approach, focused on good governance, operational & service excellence and creative solutions, with partnership and customer focus as key priorities.
Singex believes in adopting industry best practices and aligning itself to global standards such as the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System certification, dual certification for Business Continuity Management in Singapore and the UK and the Green Mark Platinum certification by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore for EXPO's new convention centre, MAX Atria.
