Single & Parenting Groups Offer Parenting Strategies, Support and Hope to Single-Parent Families

Single parents find parenting strategies, emotional guidance, job-seeking tips and personal support through weekly Single & Parenting groups.

At Single & Parenting groups, single parents access parenting tips, financial and relationship training, and encouragement to make positive changes in their families. These 13-week, small group programs meet across the U.S., Canada and in other countries and are open to all single parents-whether divorced, separated, widowed or never married.

The number of single parents in the population is exploding. Despite worries, financial straits and exhaustion, many single parents hesitate to ask for assistance.

"I felt like if I asked for help, it would be a weakness," Liz said. "I didn't want to appear like I couldn't handle it." But she realized she did need help.

Despite a tendency to try to do it alone, most single parents want to make sure their kids "turn out okay," and worry they won't. One woman shared:

"I keep hearing on the radio and TV that children should be brought up in a two-parent home. I'm thinking to myself, 'My kids are doomed.'"

Single & Parenting addresses this concern, equipping single parents with tips on understanding each child's needs, counsel on how to handle emotions, and hope for the future.

Single & Parenting videos also explain how to:

- Wisely encourage children to obey
- Help the hurting child
- Eliminate debt
- Deal with verbal onslaughts
- Figure out what emotions mean

The Single & Parenting curriculum includes three components-video, group discussion and between-session workbook exercises. Participants hear from other single parents and watch parenting demos on the videos. They also listen to over 35 experts, including H. Norman Wright, Elyse Fitzpatrick, Dr. Ed Welch and Dave Ramsey, speaking on topics important to single parents.

"It's so rewarding when you can really help your children," said Connie, single mom.
